In a remarkable game against Bristol City at Ashton Gate last night, another 4-3 score line was achieved for the second successive away game. Thankfully though this time Burnley took all the spoils and came away with all three points giving caretaker manager, Terry Pashley a 100% record to date after his second game in charge. There were some parallels to the previous away game at Palace before the international break with Burnley once again taking a two goal lead and being pegged back. This time though with the score at 3-3, it was the Clarets who had the last laugh scoring the winner in the fifth minute of added time. It was also a record breaking night for Charlie Austin who scored in his eighth consecutive game; a feat not achieved by any Burnley player since Ray Pointer in the 1958-59 season! In fact he didn`t score just one but two goals after also converting a penalty. The victory sees the Clarets now in 14th spot with 17 points from 12 games, remarkably just three points away from sixth placed club, Huddersfield. In the space of four days and two games later the Clarets have gone from a possible relegation battle to now being a play-offs contender and they did it without Eddie Howe under a caretaker manager! Well done Pash!!
Terry Pashley looked set to name an unchanged starting eleven last night until Ross Wallace pulled up in the warm-up and had to be replaced by Martin Paterson. Danny Ings now fully recovered from his torn cartilage ordeal made a welcome return to the bench and our eighteen was as follows:

Surrey referee, Lee Collins got the game underway. Charlie Austin looked isolated in the first few minutes of the game but soon made amends scoring with virtually his first touch in the 9th minute. Chris McCann split the City defence with a pass to leave Austin with a clear run on goal. With Robins keeper, Heaton advancing, Austin steered the ball around him before side footing home past covering defender Liam Fontaine.
Burnley though have struggled this season to keep leads and just eight minutes later, City had equalised. Duff was penalised for a dubious foul on Steven Davies 25 yards from goal and was even more angered by the decision when Davies took the free kick himself and thumped it past Lee Grant to level the scores.
The rest of the first half was a battle for supremacy with both sides getting few but limited chances. Most of Bristol City`s came from the threatening presence of Steven Davies who had countless shooting attempts with his left foot. Fontane spurned a chance to put the home side in front ten minutes from the interval blasting the ball over from a free kick but basically the Clarets were managing to contain the Robins attack without creating many chances of their own. Junior Stanislas`s attempt from a free kick saw the ball fly just over the bar and he then scuffed another chance wide of target, Our best chance to get our noses in front again came in first half stoppage time from a Stanislas corner. Shackell met the cross forcing Heaton to dive to his right and save. 1-1 then at half-time!
Pash must have done his stuff at the break because Burnley came out in even more positive mood determined to get the lead back and just before the hour mark, two goals in quick succession by the Clarets looked to have signed, sealed and delivered three points! Dean Marney flying free down the right side put over a deep cross for McCann. Mark Wilson`s arm though got in the way of his header and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Charlie Austin was not going to miss from twelve yards out sending Heaton the wrong way to put the Clarets 2-1 up scoring his 18th goal of the season and his 14th in eight games. The home fans had hardly got over that shock when a minute later their team was 3-1 down.
This time Austin was playmaker after putting McCann in the clear to cross from the left. Paterson this time latched onto the cross and on the edge of the penalty area thumped a right footed low deflected shot into the bottom corner of the net. How many times though are we going to lose two goal leads this season? Bristol City were certainly not going to give up and somehow crawled their way back to level the scores at 3-3
The Robins had hardly mounted an attack in the second half but were given a lifeline when another controversial decision against Duff gave the home side a penalty in the 77th minute. This time the referee decided that Duff had pushed Robins defender, McManus and Baldock made no mistake from the spot shooting home past Grant. Now the home side were playing with renewed hope and vigor and it looked to have paid off when the Robins equalised in the last minute of normal time. A free kick by Adomah hit the bar and it fell kindly for substitute Anderson to follow up and level the scores.
Deep into added time though; Burnley got the last laugh securing all three points. With just seconds remaining and in the fifth minute of added time, Trippier took a free kick swinging the ball over to the far post for McCann to loop a header back over Heaton into the far corner and make the final score 4-3 to the Clarets!! Phew what an exciting last 20 minutes and thank god we came out on top for a change!

Great win in the end! Amazing how two wins can propel you up the table from relegation battle to play-offs hopefuls! A point at Cardiff at least and I will be well happy!! All being set up nicely for the new manager!! Maybe it should be Pash!! 😉

A shortlist of Dyche, Lomas and Pressley will struggle to get the masses excited. Maybe you need to change the poll. I’d have Dyche of the three. Decent full season at Watford and no blemishes on his copybook.
Dyche would def be my choice out of the three he was given a bad deal at Watford kept a poor side mid table when many other managers would have got them relegated
Has this particular shortlist of 3 come from WelshClaret’s mate, mentioned in another thread on here, or is it from somewhere else? LT maybe? Or SKY maybe? Maybe it’s time for a new thread to be opened on the managerial vacancy so we can put all our thoughts in one place? But maybe that thread will soon be one telling us who is filling the vacancy? Whatever, I’d guess Pash will still be standing astride the white line at the edge of the technical area at whatever Cardiff’s stadium is called nowadays… and that the first phone call the new gaffer makes will be to Pash.
If it is from my mate CP, it’ll probably be from Sky , but I’ve no idea myself. The Cardiff Stadium is called the Cardiff Stadium and I’ll be there on Saturday hoping for another Pash victory , or a draw at worst. I wouldn’t pick any of these 3 either, assuming the information is correct but there you go, I’m all shook up.

I also wouldn’t be too excited by any of these three. Never have been a big fan of Sean Dyche at all. He did OK in the one season of his managerial career, but thats as far as it goes, and he didnt have a particularly successful playing career. Steven Pressley has been very unsuccessful in my opinion in his only job at Falkirk. He relegated them from the SPL in his first season in charge, and failed to take them back up last year. This season has been a bit of a disaster for him aswell, they sit 7th and he has won just two of nine games. Again, someone who has proven nothing. These two must be saying all the right things if they have got themselves second interviews, as they have no career achievements to back themselves up. Steve Lomas, on the other hand, has done brilliantly at St Johnstone, last year, he took them to a top six finish and qualified for the Europa League, a massive accomplishment for one of the relegation contenders. And this season has gone even better, they currently sit 2nd in the SPL behind Celtic and I believe they are currently on a six match winning streak. Accompany that by an impressive playing career and he has quite the CV. I certainly would be happy with him. I actually have a couple of Rangers supporting friends, and they have told be that we would want to stay well clear of Steven Pressley at all costs, but they seem to rate Steve Lomas very highly.
Graham Alexander is my favourite for the job, just based on his recent connections with the club and everything he has accomplished, I think he would have so much respect from everyone from the moment he walked into this job. I know its a long shot, but I really hope it happens. Other managers we have been linked with who I think could do well are Billy Davies, Warren Joyce, obviously Mick McCarthy and possibly Paulo Sousa as an outsider. But who knows whats going to happen ? At the end of the day even the betting odds tell you very little, it is after all just what people think. I bet you the appointment is a big surprise.
As fans, the decision is out of our hands , but if anyone is listening (or reading ) please don’t even consider Sousa. He brought very dire football to the Liberty Adam, especially after the wonderful stuff that Martinez had presented. Added to that he wasn’t successful either , so I hope that nobody even considers him to be in the frame. Over to you BFC Board !
Several bookies all have Pressley, Lomas and Dyche as the top 3 favs ( please noooooooo!!!!!), but interestingly Ian Holloway is quite high on the list.
Yes Adam, I’d agree Lomas’s stock does seem the highest of the three, though I think he’s the outsider.
Why would Ian Holloway leave Blackpool for us.??? 1/ We are a bigger club,. 2/ We have more fans, 3/ We have a better Board of directors. 4/Things seem to be coming off the rails at Pool. 5/ He can see Burnley’s potential. Any more reasons ?
None of the names mentioned here thrill me. I am certainly not a fan of Graham Alexander being given the reins – he has no experience and I do not think he would command much authority at present. I guess whoever is appointed will leave us shrugging our shoulders. Pash hasn’t done much wrong so far but, of course, being a caretaker is different to a full-time role when one defeat makes you a clown in the eyes of some. It is looking like Dyche or Pressley now….but I still would like Michael Appleton to get a chance – if he wants to leave Portsmouth.
I would be happy with Holloway but still would like Big Mick.

Look like they are going for up-and-coming unproven again rather than experienced which is a shame! Hope they still surprise us and announce a big name or once again it will be a gamble! To be honest I would rather have Pash to end of season at this rate. Surely we have to show some ambition and not go for the cheaper options again! We have to have someone of the calibre of McCarthy, Holloway and yes even Coyle etc but you just sense it aint gonna happen!
