Blackburn Rovers are relegated and their 11 year tenure in the top flight is finally over after losing 1-0 at home to Wigan Athletic tonight. Antolin Alcaraz headed the Latics to victory from a corner in the 87th minute ensuring their survival in the Premier League for another season.

Blackburn manager Steve Kean came under significant pressure throughout the game with the home crowd on his back all night.’Kean Out’ banners were splattered all round Ewood with similar chants echoing round the ground. At times it was pure farce especially when a chicken draped in a Blackburn flag appeared in the Wigan box five minutes into the game and had to be caught by Latics goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi

There was also the case of the confused and frustrated Rovers fans who charged onto the pitch at the start of the second half chucking his season ticket into the dugout in disgust! Trouble was it was the wrong dugout!

It was also absolute mayhem after the final whistle with objects being thrown and the crowd swarming onto the pitch to protest . ‘We want Venkys out’ was the chant!

Burnley though can now look forward to playing their deadly enemy in the Championship next season on a level playing field and all Clarets fans will be raising a glass to Agent Kean tonight for a job well done! Full marks too to the organisers of the plane that flew over Ewood before kick-off carrying a message reading “In Venky’s We Trust – Burnley”

So then Owen Coyle and Bolton next?
