The Clarets promotion to the top flight for the first time in 33 years will be celebrated by a BBC documentary.

The documentary will be called ‘Burnley Are Back!’. It will be broadcast by BBC One North West on Friday 14th August, just one day before we kick-off the new season in the Premier League against Stoke at the Britannia Stadium.

Famous Clarets fan and former Labour Party media mogul, Alastair Campbell will front the documentary. The programme will examine the close bonds between the team, the town and its people and capture last season’s highs and lows. There will also be some historical footage from the good old days celebrating the 50th Anniversary of our 1959/60 Division One League Champions triumph in the days before the Premier League.

Campbell describing the documentary as a ‘labour of love’ said:

‘I was delighted to be asked to make this film for the BBC – not just about the promotion but what it means to a town that has had its fair share of problems and challenges. We got fantastic access from the club, and you do not have to spend long going around town to feel the buzz.I have followed Burnley for almost 50 years – from the very top as reigning League champions when I first saw them, to the very bottom when we had to beat Orient to stay in the League,’

The documetary will also feature contributions from an all star Clarets cast including Burnley legends Jimmy McIlroy, Martin Dobson and Paul Fletcher plus fellow fan, BBC presenter and Burnley fan Tony Livesey.
