Steve Clarke was believed to be on Burnley’s short-list to become our new manager at Turf Moor.

Well if so another potential manager has just bitten the dust.

The former Chelsea assistant manager and West Ham coach has today been appointed first team coach under Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool.

It is not clear if the 47 year old was ever approached by the Clarets or indeed if he was on their short-list of about six targets.

What now seems to be clear is we are running out of options unless we can get permission to speak to Watford’s Malky MacKay.

Eddie Howe and Derek McInnes seem to be our other targets at the moment but both those do not have any Championship pedigree.
