Clarets fans hoping for Blackburn to suffer relegation on the final day of the Premier League season will be disappointed with the news that they managed to beat fellow strugglers, Wolves 3-2 at Molineux today.

The result was still good enough to save Mick McCarthy’s men with Birmingham going down 2-1 away to Spurs.

Wigan also had a good day beating Stoke City 1-0 at the Britannia Stadium.

But it was bad day for Blackpool at Old Trafford despite at one point leading the Red Devils 2-1 after coming back from a goal behind. In typical fashion though, Ian Holloway’s men crumbled in the last quarter of the game losing 4-2.

So that’s it, the Championship welcomes back Birmingham and Blackpool now along with West Ham.

The final standings at the bottom of the Premier League reads like this:

15 Blackburn 38 -13 43
16 Wigan 38 -21 42
17 Wolves 38 -20 40
18 Birmingham 38 -21 39
19 Blackpool 38 -23 39
20 West Ham 38 -27 33
