Burnley and Barnsley agreed a fee of £100,000 for Stephen Foster, who was in the final year of his contract with the Clarets.

Steve Cotterill said about the move:

‘For the second time in about 10 days, we have received a good fee. We got Steve in on a free transfer and then to be selling him for £100,000, that’s a good deal for us.

‘Steve has been a good servant to us. He has perhaps been unable to break through and play in the starting line-up all of the time.

‘We are hoping now he can maybe start playing some regular football. He’s been a very good team member but he obviously wanted to play some football. He is a good lad, we will miss him.’

The 27 year old joined the Clarets on a free transfer from Crewe in the Summer of 2006, but managed only nine first team starts in 2006/7

His last game for the Clarets was in last week’s Carling Cup win at Grimsby.
