He is keen to remain with Burnley into next season though.

Joey Barton’s already made it clear he’s more than willing to remain with the club, revealing a new deal’s already been offered to him but his focus was on promotion and now winning the title.

Barton told TalkSPORT.

‘I’ve spoken to the club and they offered me a contract six to eight weeks ago. For me, at this stage it’s not about finances – it’s about where I see myself.’

‘I didn’t want to negotiate because we’ve had a title to win and that’s been the main aim. I didn’t want anything to come between that. Once the dust has settled – we still hope to win the title – there will be plenty of time to sit down and get that sorted.’

The 33-year-old isn’t in a hurry to commit his future to Burnley, even if this is something he quite clearly wants but the suggestion is he also wants some security with this new deal potentially only being for one season?

I’m reading between the lines when I say this mind as I’ve nothing concrete to base this on.

Remaining at Turf Moor though is something he reaffirmed is clearly what he wants as he’s enjoyed his season with Burnley and feels very much at home.

‘The club know where I am on it. I’m absolutely delighted with the season I’ve had, delighted with my teammates, really humbled to be a part of it and hopefully we can sort something out and make it continue in the Premier League.’

I wouldn’t think anyone would be opposed to Barton staying would they?

Much as I’ve said before no doubt a good number (myself included) weren’t too sure about his arrival when the midfielder did arrival but he’s proven many wrong and won over (virtually all) his doubters.
