Does anybody think someone of the stature of ‘Big Sam’ Allardyce would be remotely tempted by a move down to the Championship to manage ‘ickle old Burnley?

Most Clarets fans would have scoffed at that suggestion and turned into Victor Meldrews!

‘I dont believe it’ then after reading today’s Daily Mirror.

According to the national paper, Sam Allardyce wants to be the next Burnley boss and he has “already put in for the job”. The Mirror reports that the former Blackburn Rovers` manager is “desperate to get stuck in again” after being sacked by Rovers` new Indian owners a fortnight ago.

There would certainly be something ironic about Big Sam getting the job at Turf Moor and imagine what fun we could have bantering with the Rovers fans.

‘Big Sam’ though is used to state-of-the-art Premier League facilities along the lines of the Reebok. Would he really be happy at Turf Moor working with far greater restricted budgets than he has been used to?

Well who knows! He might simply be motivated by the knowledge he has got one over on Blackburn after being treated so badly by now batting for the other side!

On the flip-side how would Clarets fans take to the news that they now had a former Blackburn Rovers manager at the helm?

What interesting times we live in. 2011? What a year this could turn out to be.
