Billy Davies is a shock front-runner to become Burnley`s next manager according to the Dail Mail.

The former Motherwell, Preston & Derby gaffer has steered Nottingham Forest to 8th spot in the Championship league table this season, two places currently higher up than the Clarets. Forest are currently just one point off the play-offs places.

Why then you might ask could he be remotely interested into going to a club that is currently performing less well?

The Mail surmise he has fallen out with the Forest Board and is in dispute with Nottingham Forest over the club`s transfer policy and lack of funds.

They go onto clain that Burnley have put Davies along with Bournemouth`s Eddie Howe at the top of their list.

Although it is difficult to believe the rumour, Davies would certainly have the right credentials,

He twice took Preston to the play-offs stages-a final and semi-final and after leaving Deepdale in June 2006 steered Derby County to a play-offs Wembley victory against WBA.

The big question mark though could be his temperament and his ability to get on with the Burnley Board if he doesn’t get his way on the transfer front. We have been pretty tight with the purse strings despite a season in the top flight so would Davies accept that situation?

The Mail suggest there could also be misgivings over whether the 33-year-old could control the dressing room in view of his well-known abrasive nature

He does though now also have a formidable reputation for moulding successful npower Championship sides and maybe after ‘Mr Nice Guy’ Laws , Davies could be hugely succcessful for the club.
