Former Clarets gaffer, Brian Laws is an early front-runner to replace Malky Mackay as the Watford manager according to Sunday tabloid speculation.

That would certainly be an intriguing appointment considering we play Watford at home in our opening game of the new 2011-12 season. It would also be interesting to hear what sort of reception Laws gets as he walks to the away dugout at Turf Moor!

Stevenage boss Graham Westley and Northern Ireland chief Nigel Worthington are also thought to be in the frame.

Laws has been out of work since being sacked by Burnley six months ago and is understood to be looking for a new Championship club.

Watford`s board are keen on the ex-Scunthorpe and Sheffield Wednesday boss it is reported because…get this..funds are limited and they are being realistic about who they can employ. Well that,if true is a ringing endorsement of Laws’ capabilities and brings back shades of that ridiculous statement made by the Burnley board at the time Laws became Burnley gaffer.

They said that according to an accountants’ report (Do Little & Spend nowt, whatever they were called), Laws had a good track record of working on low budgets at Championship level. Just a pity we were in the Premier League at the time!

Former Watford manager Graham Taylor will also be part of the selection panel and would you just not love being a hornet on the wall, when Laws is discussed?

Well this speculation certainly brought a broad grin to my face!
