Burnley have now been crowned the Championship title winners for the 2015/16 campaign.

With the automatic promotion spot clinched the other week and a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking secured, it was all eyes to the game earlier today against already relegated Charlton Athletic, as another three points for Sean Dyche’s side would confirmed them as Championship winners.

Winning the game three nil with goals coming from Sam Vokes, George Boyd and Andre Gray, Burnley were celebrating another achievement at the full time whistle – but sadly only with an inflatable trophy as the decision was taken ahead of the game that the Championship trophy wouldn’t be lifted post game owing to crowd concerns.

The players and Dyche will lift the trophy for real at the Civic Reception at Burnley Town Hall on Monday May 9, and they will then embark on the open top bus parade through the town to celebrate this year’s achievements.

Commenting quickly at the full time whistle on being denied the trophy at the end of the game, Dyche admitted it was ‘disappointing’ but swiftly added.

‘But the main thing is we know. We don’t need the medals. The medal is my brain. I know it is there. This squad is ready to attempt to stay in the Premier league because it’s a massive challenge.’

With the season now over – I imagine the players haven’t let the lack of a trophy interrupt celebrations on the journey back home tonight!
