Sean Dyche has revealed that Dean Marney and Nahki Wells will step up their return to fitness by featuring in the Under 23 game against Nottingham Forest since Friday.

The game takes place at the City Ground at 1.30pm and the two players will go into the tie as accepted overage options available to Michael Duff, and both will be given it’s expected, at least a 45 minute run out.

It will of course be Wells’ first appearance since his summer arrival from Huddersfield Town.

Speaking to the Official Site Dyche was obviously delighted that both were now in a position to gain match minutes.

‘We`re really pleased. They`re two slightly different stories, but it will be great to see them both getting some game-time.’

Marney has of course been out after suffering an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury for the second time in the match against Arsenal back in January, but the 33 year old midfielder underwent successful surgery and is close to completing his long rehabilitation programme – and the game is the next step on that journey.

Wells is returning to fitness having had minor surgery to remove a screw inserted into his foot in an earlier operation.

‘Nhaki was fit from last season, came into pre-season and needed this minor situation sorting out. It`s been careful as you go, but he`s been progressing nicely and going into more football-style action with a game. Deano is slightly different. It`s the end of the beginning, if you like. There`s no rush for him still. It`s an early fixture for him to just find his way a little bit. He`s got to build up those layers of game time. It`s good to see Deano back out there with us regularly, training with the first team, and his next step is this game coming up.’

Dyche also confirmed the reported news that Jonathan Walters would be out for a number of weeks (December return expected) as he’s given more time to overcome a knee issue.
