Vital Burnley brought you news this week that former Clarets defender, Wayne Thomas had been released by Southampton and was now looking for a new club along with 12 of his team mates.

A number of our other former players though are also on the move from their current clubs.

Steve Cotterill at Notts County has released Ade Akinbiyi, a striker of course he knew well from his days in charge at Turf Moor. Ade has hardly featured at all in Notts County’s promotion this season from League 1 as Champions. He has made just one start and has been mainly on the bench all season. Delroy Facey, who had a brief loan spell with the Clarets in 2003, has also been released by County. He too has not featured too much in County’s promotion season and spent three months of it out on loan to Lincoln City.

Cotterill himself might soon be on the move. He could be going to Coventry as their new gaffer and is currently mulling over the offer.

Glen Little is another casualty and the 34 year old is leaving Sheffield United after making just seven league starts and nine appearances from the bench all season.

After being released by Reading, he had a trial at Bramall Lane before signing a one-year contract in July 2009.

Former Clarets midfielder,John Spicer now 26 is also on the move after Doncaster Rovers decided not to renew his contract. He joined Doncaster Rovers in June 2008 after being released by the Clarets. Spicer spent the last few months out on loan to Leyton Orient after signing for them in March 2010.

A couple of our former loans will also be moving on in the summer.

Paul McVeigh has been released by Norwich for the second time after returning to Carrow Road and signing a one year contract in July 2009.

Former Sheffield Wednesday defender, Graham Coughlan now 35 is another who has not been offered a new contract.Coughlan signed a two-year contract with Shrewsbury for an undisclosed fee in July 2008 after leaving Rotherham United.

Both McVeigh and Coughlan signed on loan for the Clarets at the same time back in 2007.

Our former left-back Mo Camara,34 is another on the move having been released by Torquay United.

Finally we bring you news of two of our former players who have been put on the transfer list by financially-stricken club, Preston North End.

Darren Ferguson has decided to transfer list both Richard Chaplow and Neal Trotman amongst a number of other Preston players.
