Huddersfield have signed former Clarets Iceland international Joey Gudjonsson on a free transfer.

Gudjonsson was out-of-contract in the summer and burnt his bridges with the club after allegedly criticsing Brian Laws on an Icelandic website suggesting the gaffer had ‘lost the dressing room’

The midfielder, 30 has signed a two-year contract with the League One side who missed out on promotion this season after reaching the Play Offs semi-final stage.

Terriers gaffer Lee Clark talking about the signing said:

‘Joey is very energetic and plays with a real intensity. He’s a box-to-box player who is very competitive.

‘He can play at the level we want to reach and has great experience of both Premiership and Championship football in this country.

‘That experience is vital, but he also still has the desire to be successful.

‘I know we’ve beaten Championship clubs to his signature, which shows that word is getting around about how ambitious we are and that we’re doing things in the right way.

‘It’s a bit of a coup that we haven’t had to pay a transfer fee for a lad of his quality too.’
