Peterborough have been promoted to the Championship after beating Huddersfield 3-0 at Old Trafford today in the League 1 Play-Offs Final.

Darren Ferguson’s men had to wait until the 78th minute before breaking the deadlock and by the 85th minute were 3-0 up after a rampant 7 minute spell that completely took the stuffing out of the Yorkshire side.

Former Clarets midfelder, Joey Gudjonsson did not feature in the game for Huddersfield but was an unused substitute.

I had mixed loyalties for this clash. I am currently working in Huddersfield on a contract but then Peterbourough are just one stop down the line from where I live near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire! Believe it or not I have never visited London Road so now I have the prefect excuse to go next season when the Clarets travel down thus allowing me to cross yet another ground off the list.

Posh have had just one season in League 1 after their relegation from the Championship at the end of 2009-10 and of course our paths did not cross that season with Burnley trying and failing to stay in the Premier League.

The season before that Posh were gaining promotion to the Championship so our paths failed to cross yet again. In fact under manager Darren Ferguson this was their second consecutive promotion.

Ferguson though left the the club in November 2009 with Posh struggling at the foot of the Championship table. Successive managers in the form of Mark Cooper and Jim Gannon were unable to stop the rot and Gary Johnson then became manager following confirmation that Posh had been relegated.

Johnson had a disagreement with the club and left in January 2011 and Darren Ferguson after an unsuccessful spell at Preston was reinstated as Peterborough gaffer signing a four and a half year contract.

It would appear Ferguson and Posh are a match made in heaven after he has now masterminded yet another promotion for the London Road club.

Welcome back Posh! London Road here I come!
