Clarets striker, Alex MacDonald has received a debut call-up to the Scottish U19 squad

Billy Stark’s Scotland U19s side face Holand in the GVVV Stadium, Veenendaal, on Friday (kick-off 6 p.m.).

The 18-year-old although born in Chester qualifies to play for Scotland because of his Glasgow-born father.

‘I am absolutely ecstatic. The game is on Friday and I just can’t wait, said MacDonald

‘My father is a proud Glaswegian and it has always been in the back of my mind that I would choose Scotland over England.

‘I still can’t believe it’s happened so soon though and I just want to go there, hopefully be involved and do my family and the club proud.’

This is a great achievement for MacDonald who only made his Clarets debut last April against Cardiff before being named as the club’s Youth Player of the Year.He scored his first senior goal for the Clarets at St Johnstone during the pre-season Scottish tour in July and is in only his first full season as a professional.

Also on International duty for the Clarets will be the following:

Michael Duff and Martin Paterson have been selected for Nigel Worthington’s Northern Ireland squad for the start of their 2010 World Cup qualifiers campaign. They will play Slovakia on Saturday at the Slovan stadium in TehelnĂ© Pole before returning to Belfast to play the Czech Republic four days later at Windsor Park.

Graham Alexander is also on duty and has been named in the Scotland squad for their first two World Cup qualifiers but this time in his own right after being drafted in at the last minute for their recent Northern Ireland friendly due to injuries

Scotland’s first game will be on Saturday away to Macedonia followed by another away game against Iceland on the following Wednesday

Kevin McDonald has also been selected for the Scottish U21 squad as they hope to progress in the European Under-21 qualifiers.

A home match against Slovenia is followed by a visit to Denmark. McDonald will be hoping he can perhaps add to the goal he scored the last time he played for the U21s.

Well done to all the lads selected for their country!
