Burnley Football Club have withdrawn themselves from the reserves Pontins League, with immediate effect.

The size of the Clarets’ squads is cited as the main reason, with the club acting on professional advice.

The reserve sides last season were largely made up of apprentices, and the changes made will ease their workload considerably.

The club has made the decision in order to protect many of the young players, after their heavier than normal workload last season. The resignation from the league has been accepted.

Many of the players were competing in youth and reserve games in the same week. The club will be looking to play friendly reserve matches as and when necessary.
