Breaking News on the Official Sunderland AFC site as the loan deal that takes Andy Cole to Burnley is confirmed.

The 36 year old striker will be at Turf Moor until the end of the season and could feature in the next match for the Clarets at West Brom this Saturday.

He has made just three starts for Sunderland so far in a total of eight appearances for the club since joining them in August 2007 after leaving Portsmouth as a free agent.

The striker has scored nearly 300 goals in his career having played for 10 clubs, most famously Manchester United and Blackburn.

Owen Coyle was clearly delighted to have the England International on board and said to the Offical Burnley website:

“I am absolutely delighted to bring a player of Andy Cole’s stature and quality to the football club,”

“I have been working on signing him for a while now and I am thrilled to have him. He will be a tremendous addition for Burnley and gives us a big, big boost.”

Cole,capped 15 times for England with take the Number 27 shirt for the Clarets.

The news follows an earlier announcement that we had also agreed with Sunderland to extend Stan Varga’s loan to the end of the season.
