Cork Gets England Call (7/11/17)

Burnley’s Jack Cork has been called up by England manager Gareth Southgate for the coming international break.

The next break of the 2017/18 campaign in November sees England face friendlies against Germany and Brazil. The game against Germany takes place on November 10, with Brazil on November 14. Both matches are at Wembley.

A few players have already withdrawn from the squad, with replacements named but following late withdrawls of Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph and Jordan Henderson earlier today, Southgate has moved quickly to bring 28 year old Cork into the squad as cover.

He’s uncapped but has played every minute of Burnley’s impressive Premier League campaign so far.

Speaking to the BBC as news broke of his promotion, Cork explained.

‘I’m really, really happy. We’ve had a good start to the season and you’re probably not going to get many better opportunities to be in the England squad, because we are doing so well. Four or five of the lads in the Burnley squad probably could have got in at the same time as me, so I feel lucky that I’ve been given the chance.’

Cork has previously represented England at every age group from Under 16 through to Under 21 and represented Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympics.
