The Clarets have today signed 20 year old goalkeeper Jonathan Lund following a trial at Turf Moor. He has signed a one-year contract.

The former Leeds United and Grimsby stopper will feature in tonight’s reserve game against Liverpool’s second-string to be played at Tranmere`s Prenton Park. He will be keen to impress his new gaffer and will get the ideal opportunity to do so close up.

Injuries and the international break mean the Clarets have a number of players unavailable giving Owen Coyle the chance once more to play in the Reserves up front and pass on his valuable experience to the youngsters.

The signing of a new keeper is bound to cast doubt on the long-term future of Diego Penny who has had limited opportunities in the first team since arriving from Peru in Summer 2008. The recent injury to Brian Jensen, which turned out to be just a deadleg and in the end did not involve him missing any games perhaps brought it home to Owen Coyle, Phil Hughes and others that we needed additional cover between the sticks.

The Clarets have been linked previously to this keeper so perhaps the signing is not totally unexpected.Lund has in fact twice been on trial with the club, and played for the reserves last season against Carlisle and Morecambe. He has played for most of his professional career with his hometown club, Leeds United but never made his first team debut. Lund signed a short contract with League 2 side, Grimsby in March 2009 after impressing the Mariners gaffer,Mike Newell.
