According to some media reports today, Burnley are understood to have tabled a bid for 28 year old Norwich City captain Russell Martin. The versatile Scotland international can play at both right back or in central defence.

Born in Brighton he came through his local club’s youth sytem but left by mutual consent in early 2004 and finished the season on the books of Isthmian League Division One South side Lewes. He eventually joined Wycombe on a non-contract basis but in the summer of 2006 he signed a new two-year contract with the club. Martin was out of contract at the end of the 2008-09 season and in May 2008 moved to Peterborough United, who had just been promoted to League One.He signed a three year contract and soon became their captain. In November 2009, Martin joined Norwich City on loan and in January 2010 made the move permanent after accepting a two-and-a-half year contract.

It is thought he is keen to play in the Premier League again and is therefore likely to be open to talks.
