Young Burnley defender Jimmy Dunne will continue his development with Accrington Stanley for the remainder of this season.

With the January window now open, the 20 year old Irishman has returned from his spell at Barrow in the first half of the campaign and having impressed he’ll now take his chance to impress in League Two for the remainder of 2017/18.

His time at Barrow saw him start 21 matches and although the wanted to keep him, he’ll now move to near neighbours Accrington and look to play his part for them as they battle to secure promotion under John Coleman.

Speaking to the Official Site as the deal was announced, he explained.

‘It is a step up from Barrow and that’s what I need. I have learnt a lot at Barrow and this is an opportunity for me to step into the League. It’s a different kind of football, a different situation, as there was a lot of defending at Barrow, while Accrington are doing well in League Two. There will be more quality and it will be a faster pace of football.’

He went on to add.

‘I spoke to Kevin Long, who was also on loan at Accrington and a number of other clubs. He is Irish, too, and he has gone on to make his international debut and play in the Premier League, so there is a pathway. He is someone I can look up to.’

In other loan news, Dan Agyei has also returned from his spell at Walsall. The 20 year old striker made 18 League One appearances for them, scoring four times – including a hattrick in the EFL Trophy.
