Manager Sean Dyche has confirmed that talks have been held with Scott Arfield over a new contract, but as of yet, no deal has been struck.

With speculation linking the 29 year old Canadian international with possible moves to Crystal Palace or West Ham – should their speculated interest be accurate – as Dyche met with the media this week for his pre game press conference the BBC have him confirming that an offer for a new contract is on the table, but obviously Arfield is assessing his options which is only natural.

With his contract up in the summer and with 190 games under his belt for us following his arrival from Huddersfield Town back in 2013, Dyche explained.

‘We have had talks with him and he has sat tight on an offer so we will keep an open mind and we will see what comes next. Scott knows where it all stands and he knows the club’s situation. He’s been a very, very good player for us and he continues to be.’

Dyche added.

‘Every player has a right to decide what their thoughts are.’

As others have noted, the hold up could simply be the length of contract offered compared to what might be available if he looks for pastures new. But he’s got a good few years left in the tank yet, so a bit of patience whilst he makes his decision shouldn’t be overly read into really I’d have thought.

Dyche did also say that he was unaware of any interest in the player, so nothing formal has yet come from the earlier speculation so far.
