Manager Sean Dyche has spoken about relishing the opportunity for Burnley to test itself against some top European opposition this week.

Burnley are gearing up for Spanish La Liga outfit Celta Vigo first on Tuesday evening and then we host Bundesliga side Hannover 96 on Saturday as the twice German champions continue their preparations for a top flight return after one season in the second division.

With Celta Vigo first, it’s three years since they drew with us two all back in 2014 and both matches give Dyche a final chance to tweak things ahead of the Premier League kick off against Chelsea on August 12.

Speaking to the Official Site to preview the game, Dyche insisted it would be about game time but the seniors should step up now as they make their own stake for a starting spot.

It’s also a chance for new signings to introduce themselves to our Turf Moor crowd as Jon Walters, Charlie Taylor, Phil Bardsley and the returning Jack Cork will be hoping for home bows, but Celta Vigo won’t be easy, they were a goal away from knocking Manchester United out of the Europa League last term at the semi final stage.

‘Because we have changed as a club we do get offered away games abroad. But we have chosen these two home games against high-quality opposition. It`s good to play these types of games and to have some fixtures at Turf Moor so more fans can get the chance to watch. We are still working towards the start of the season and using the game-time appropriately, but it also gives the supporters the opportunity to see the new players as part of the squad.’

James Tarkowski was also speaking ahead of the game and he was looking forward to the encounter as well.

‘It will be nice to get back there and get a couple of games in before the season starts. It`s always good to go back there. We had a very successful season last year, especially at home, so it will be nice to get back there.’

Kick off on Tuesday evening is 7.45pm.
