Rangers and Burnley were understood to have agreed a ‘substantial’ fee for 24-year-old winger, Chris Eagles and it looked on the cards that he would soon be joining the SPL Champions.

However following talks in Glasgow, it is now clear he was unable to agree personal terms.

Eagles was at Ibrox and also visited the Gers’ Murray Park training ground on Wednesday. He held discussions with Rangers gaffer, Walter Smith and chief executive Martin Bain but these talks appear to have broken down.

‘Chris Eagles has tonight (Thursday) decided that a move to Rangers is not in his best interests,’ read a statement on the club’s official website.

Surprising decision but is he holding out still for a Premier League club to come in for him? Time will tell,in the meantime we can all breathe a sigh of relief(at least those Clarets fans who rate Eagles and believe he can do a job for us in the Championship)

Burnley FC are aware they could lose Eagles on a Bosman next summer when his contract expires so they may be keen to cash in now if the player is unhappy to play in the Championship. On the other hand,Chris, why not stay and try and get us back into the Premier League?
