Canada’s involvement in the CONCACAF Gold Cup came to an end last Sunday. In their final group game against Panama played at the Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado they could only muster a goalless draw against the eventual group winners. They finished the group games then without a win losing 1-0 to Martinuque and 2-0 to Mexico in the previous matches. So its Panama and Mexico who qualify for the quarter finals and Canada can now pack their bags and go home. One player packing his bags could be on a longer journey home than most!

David Edgar’s international involvement playing for Canada in the competition has prevented him being available for Burnley’s pre-season training and friendly games to date. However he now returns to East Lancashire from over the pond keen to get back on track as the Clarets prepare for the new season ahead.

It will be interesting to see if he features in our next pre-season friendly away to Carlisle United this Saturday. At least he should be fighting fit and match-ready in light of his international involvement with Canada.
