Fans Hail A Great Start From Burnley Ahead Of 2018/19

|

With one game to go in the season of 2017/18, Burnley already know that we can add a European adventure to our plans for the next campaign given our finish in the Premier League this year.

With the curtain not quite drawn on the year, plans for next season are already afoot at the club and this morning it was announced that Johann Berg Gudmundsson had signed a new long-term contract with us.

The Icelandic international has penned fresh terms on a three-year deal with us ahead of his World Cup adventure this summer.

Having joined from Charlton Athletic back in the summer of 2016, the 27-year-old has certainly seen the fans take to him and he’s more than played his part in our seventh-placed finish this year with 34 league appearances to his name. Those games have seen him find the net twice and he’s picked up eight assists.

Speaking to the Official Site as is deal was announced, he explained.

“This season has been a good season for myself and the team and being rewarded with a new contract is a great thing. It’s something I wanted to do. I want to stay here. I feel comfortable here and my family likes it here, so I definitely wanted to sign a new contract. I think I’ve played well this season but as a player you always want to do better and next season I will hopefully do even better. They are exciting times and it’s going to be nice to play in Europe.”

Gudmundsson becomes the sixth senior to sign a new deal at the club this season, following in the footsteps of Nick Pope, James Tarkowski, Ashley Barnes, Kevin Long and Stephen Ward.

With his performances this year, fans are rightly pleased with the news.
