Joey Gudjonsson has been in superb form, recently scoring against Swansea and against Preston North End.

His drive of over 35 yards against Preston at Turf Moor a week ago last Saturday stunned the crowd and delighted Clarets fans. That strike could well be a candidate for goal of the season come May 2009.

Joey has fought hard to claim his starting eleven place after being on the bench for most of the earlier games of the season and he has now started in the last four matches including our last match against Reading away yesterday.

His efforts have now been rewarded with the announcement this week that he is one of the candidates for the Championship Player of the Month Award for September.

Gudjonsson though faces tough competition from Michael Kightley (Wolves), Kevin Doyle (Reading) and Martin Albrechtsen (Derby)

The winner will be announced on the Big League Weekend on Sky Sports 1 tomorrow on Monday evening at approx 7pm.

Vital Burnley and especially it’s editor are delighted for Joey. He has had his fair share of critics over the last few seasons and at long last is now beginning to show his worth and justifying the faith that former gaffer, Steve Cotterill showed in bringing the Icelandic International to Turf Moor.

Good luck tomorrow, Joey lets hope we can make this two awards following Owen Coyle’s Manager of the Month award a few days ago
