Clarets fans may have picked up rumours that Burnley had been linked with a move for 19 year old Everton midfielder, Jose Baxter. Born on Merseyside, Baxter joined the Toffees as a youth player in 1998 becoming the youngest Everton player to make his first team debut. He first played for them in the opening game of the 2008-9 season at home to Blackburn Rovers at the tender age of 16 years and 191 days! He has made just six appearances for the club but in March 2009 agreed a new 2.5 year contract. Although is a recognised midfielder, he can also play up front as a striker.

He sounds a good prospect having already represented England at U16 and U17 level but any hope Clarets fans may have had of Burnley signing the young talent appear to have been dashed by Eddie Howe himself.

“I know he`s a good player but not (for us) at the moment,” said Howe

Indeed Howe went further saying it was not even a priority for him to strengthen the midfield at the moment. When asked whether he intended to boost the midfield he replied:

“Probably not. I think we have other priorities at the moment, but I wouldn`t rule it out in the future.”
