Football minnows,Iceland secured a point against fashionable Spain yesterday in the Euro 2008 match helping out Northern Ireland in the process.

Nobody would have rated Iceland with any chance in their home International but five minutes before half time Spain felt the chill factor as they went behind to a goal by Emil Hallfredsson

Our man Joey was also involved in the goal and after a run down the right wing put in a superb cross to the far post finding Hallfredsson. His diving header gave Spanish keeper, Iker Casillas no chance

Andrés Iniesta however made sure the Spanish team didnt go away completely red-faced getting the equaliser with only 4 minutes remaining of normal time.

By this time however Joey had been substituted after 79 minutes and he also picked up a yellow card in the 36th minute.

The draw however gave some hope to Northern Ireland who in the same group failed to beat Latvia in Riga going down 1-0 to an own goal by Baird after 56 minutes. Our lads, Lafferty and Duff both started in this match but Jones had to be content with sitting on the bench and didnt feature.

Northern Ireland now face Iceland in the next match on Wednesday 12th September in Reykjavik. Nigel Worthington’s men will be hoping to keep Iceland at bay and it will be interesting to see how Joey fares against his Clarets team mates.
