Instant Reactions – Burnley v Everton (3/3/18)

|

Following today’s clash between Burnley and Everton, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Burnley hosted Everton at Turf Moor on Saturday March 3, with the hosts taking a two one victory.

Everton opened the scoring in the game through Cenk Tosun, but a second half comeback from the hosts saw them find the net through Ashley Barnes in the 56th minute and substitute Chris Wood with ten minutes remaining in the game.

Everton’s away form continues but Burnley do bring an end to their 11 game run without victory.

Teams:

Burnley:

Pope, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Ward, Lennon, Cork, Westwood, Berg Gudmundsson, Hendrick (Wood 45), Barnes.

Substitutes:

Nkoudou, Marney, Vokes, Lindegaard, Bardsley, Long.

Everton:

Pickford, Coleman, Williams, Keane, Martina, Davies (Rooney 59), Gueye, Walcott, Sigurdsson (Bolasie 83), Calvert-Lewin, Tosun (Niasse 68).

Substitutes:

Schneiderlin, Baines, Holgate, Robles.

Speaking to the BBC’s cameras a short time after match day referee Chris Kavanagh blew the final whistle, Burnley manager Sean Dyche explained.

‘It was a thorough performance and winning one. The were some quality moments in it, especially the pass from Lowton for Barnes’ goal – it was as good a pass as you will see. We have more to do. We wanted to correct the run and we have done that. Hopefully that freedom in the second half is something we can carry on.’

Everton manager Sam Allardyce in his comparative interview explained.

‘We lost it by not scoring the second goal when we had clear, clear opportunities. We gifted them a goal which lifted the spirits around the ground. And I always dislike conceding from a corner, it could be avoided. That’s five away defeats on the trot. It’s simply not good enough. I feel worse than the fans – they won’t believe this – but it’s my responsibility. I go home and say to myself ‘how do I put this right?’ For me to see the players under perform in the second half is very disappointing for me. It’s my problem to sort it out.’
