Michael Keane and James Tarkowski are, in some quarters, viewed as the ideal central defensive partnership to see Burnley through the second half of the season (and as we move forward) with the reports of Keane going and Tarkowski arriving ongoing.

Keane continues to be linked with various Premier League clubs whereas Brentford’s Tarkowski, who the Clarets moved for when he was an Oldham player, is rumoured to be of interest to Sean Dyche once again.

If the Mirror is right with what they’ve claimed the transfer window has started with Burnley making a move for the 23-year-old but this has been turned down by our Championship rivals whereas other reports say we’re ‘closing in’ on his signature.

Bringing Tarkowski in, a former teammate of club record signing Andre Gray, would be great but the main thing is that we can keep Keane at Turf Moor with him making it clear he wants to return to the Premier League but he’s also said, quoted in the Burnley Express, he’s flattered by the talks but he’s happy where he is and isn’t looking to go anywhere this move.

‘If it’s true then it can be very flattering, but I’m really happy here at Burnley and I won’t be going anywhere in January. I want to try and get this club back to the Premier League like everybody else. Everyone in the team, the manager and the fans have been great with me, so there’s no reason for me to leave. You just take it as a compliment. It just proves that you’re playing well if there’s teams coming after you. I think I’m defending well consistently now.

‘I think I’ve been doing well on a personal level for a while now, so I’m just hoping to keep it up. It’s just speculation – you don’t know whether to believe it or not – but it is nice to see. I think I’ve developed a lot here under the gaffer. I’ve had all the experienced players helping me as well. I’m hoping to keep that up and get back into the Premier League and do it there as well.’

Good news!

Other news has seen it confirmed ‘keeper Danijel Nizic is back after his three-month loan spell with Crewe where he managed one appearance for the League 1 side with Development Squad defender Alex Whitmore leaving for the remainder of the season.

The 20-year-old has joined Gateshead FC after a couple of months on loan with another non-league side Chester.
