Clarets fans eagerly await news of the fixture list for the new season which will kick-off on Saturday 6th August.

The Npower Championship fixtures will be released later this month on Thursday 16th June.

The club have released figures for season tickets sold so far ahead of the new 2011-12 season. The Early Bird period finished on the 31st March and the club reported back then that sales were already over 10,000. Despite the fact we face at least another season in the Championship following our failure to reach the play-offs, sales have remained steady and according to the club are now over 10,500.

Our average gate last season was 15,088 and this represents a 13.6 % increase over the season we last played in the Championship when we gained promotion to the top flight in 2008-9.

The average gates over the last three Championship seasons have been as follows:

2007-08: 12,385

2008-09: 13,280

2010-11: 15,088

Last season in the Championship, a total of 347013 home and away supporters attended our league games at Turf Moor.

Our lowest gate was against Doncaster Rovers (13,655) and our highest against Leeds United (20,453). In addition to Leeds, another four clubs brought more than 1000 travelling fans to Burnley. These were Nottingham Forest, Leicester City, Preston North End and Cardiff City.

All this is very encouraging considering we were relegated from the Premier League after just one season in the top flight and then had to face demoralisation and despair following the Coyle/Laws saga.

I guess we can only dream what might have been had the club tried a little harder financially to stay in the top flight. By now we could have consolidated and been enjoying an average gate of 20,000 or more but ces’t la vie!
