Clarets fans have got used to pre-season tours to distant lands in recent summers. This time though things will be different with no need for Clarets fans to fork out money to travel to places like the US, Far East and …Scotland (cough) in order to watch their beloved team ahead of a new season.

With five friendlies already announced, the only tour this time will be to the South West of England!

Burnley will play Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday 19th July and the club are looking to arrange another friendly in the area to be played on Saturday 23rd July. Could it be Swindon?

It would appear Eddie Howe may have had the opportunity to take his side to Europe this pre-season but instead has decided to remain on these shores in the summer.

Speaking on the Official Site, it would appear his rationale is mainly financial:

‘First and foremost we did not want a big expensive tour. We want any money to be re-invested into the facilities and into the team’

Howe though also believes the long-distance tours are not in the end good for the players:

‘I dont think travelling thousands of miles, does the players any good,

‘You can travel a long way and it can take two or three days to recover’

The announcement could be relief to financially-strapped Clarets fans who might have been tempted to spend their hard earned dosh in order to watch their beloved Burnley even though they couldn’t really afford it.A few marriages may have been saved!!
