Huddersfield Town have won the battle to sign Burnley striker Martin Paterson. The Terriers have beaten off the challenge from Wigan, Birmingham, Charlton,Ipswich and Middlesbrough in the Championship as well as League One, Wolves.

It had been hoped that Sean Dyche might have been able to persuade Paterson to stay but a combination of a significant pay cut and the inability to guarantee a pure striker’s role up front looks to have scuppered those plans so Pato departs Turf Moor after five years with the club. The 26-year-old Northern Ireland international has signed a two-year deal with Huddersfield and the contract also includes an option of a further year.
