The Clarets have played over 40 games so far this season, a few have recently looked jaded and tired most notably Paterson, Eagles and McCann. Is it right therefore we are shipping out players on loan with a promotion campaign to win?

So far only one player has come in during the January window and that was Rhys Williams on loan from Middlesbrough until the end of the season.

Coyle has said he hopes to get one more loan in at least and that is understood to be Celtic defender, Darren O’Dea but once again talks seem to have stalled although there will still be some time to bring in loans after the January window closes and we might need that time.

Today two further loans have so far been announced with the transfer window about to be closed.

Steve Jones loan to Bradford has been extended until the end of the season

Remco van der Schaaf having recovered from a kidney problem is now being loaned out to Danish outfit, Brondby for six months.

These loans add to those of Kiraly (no complaints there) and Berisha.

Loan Russell Anderson although still named in the Burnley squad is doubtful for the rest of the season after his cruciate ligament injury back in September 2008.

At the moment therefore we have an effective squad of 22 players and that includes a reserve goalkeeper and three young guns.Rodriguez in particular though is becoming more and more involved but he too must be getting fed up of bench warming and coming on for a few minutes in cup games and generally scoring without being rewarded. Maybe he will be another loan candidate at this rate. Alex MacDonald is another fringe player ready to break through but given little opportunity and even less so for Adam Kay.

Will this squad be enough to sustain a promotion push via the play-offs with tiredness, suspensions and injuries already taking their toll as they always seem to do at this time of year? At the moment it looks like the sqaud might increase by one player if we get O’Dea. Is that enough even?

Many Clarets fans I know would have liked to see Remco van der Schaaf return to the team and wouldn’t this have given the side more options in the holding midfield role and by definition the back four with Alexander also able to play right back?

Berisha was believed to have taken third fiddle to the likes of Elliott and Eagles but the former has lacked sparkle recently and Eagles is looking increasingly jaded. Would Berisha now have been an ideal player to step up and be given his first team debut for the Clarets?

Well we have to give Owen Coyle the benefit of the doubt but I don’t know I just feel a little uncomfortable at the moment. What do others think? Comment below or in our forums.
