According to the Daily Mirror today the Clarets have made a club record £2.75m bid for Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher.

Fletcher is supposedly also interesting Wigan and Celtic and in a report in the Daily Express yesterday it was thought our bitter rivals down the road, Blackburn Rovers were also preparing a bid with a £4 million figure quoted!

The 22 year old is a Scottish International forward. He signed for Hibernian as a youth in 2000, came through their ranks and made his first team debut for Hibs in a 3-0 win over Kilmarnock near the end of the 2003-04 season.

He scores on average one goal in 3-4 games and has netted 43 times in 155 appearances for the Easter Road club. He also has four caps for Scotland with one goal to his name.

Fletcher looks an exciting striker but we face tough competition to sign him if the rumours are true.

New Celtic boss Tony Mowbray is understood to be ready to make a fresh swoop for Fletcher. Mowbray previously tried to sign him for West Brom in the January transfer window and knows the striker from the time he managed the player at Easter Road. According to last Sunday’s Mail, Mowbray could be about to bid for a player rated at about £2.8 million. Both West Brom and Celtic under Gordon Strachan were after the player in the January window and got knocked backed by Easter Road supremo Rod Petrie.
