Tottenham’s England Under-21 full-back Adam Smith appears to be interesting a number of Championship clubs with a view to a loan.

Burnley are reported to be one of the clubs along with Leeds and Ipswich looking at the 20 year old.

Smith is a product of Tottenham Hotspur youth academy having joined the club as a youngster in 2007. He has yet to make his first team debut for Spurs and has spent most of his time out on loan including a spell at Dean Court playing for Bournemouth under Eddie Howe.

Prior to that he was on loan to Wycombe Wanderers, where in August 2009 he made his Football League debut away to Charlton Athletic and then had a spell at Torquay.

His spell at Bournemouth was initially for a month having signed on loan in September 2010. He finished up playing 40 times for the Cherries during the 2010-11 season before returning to White Hart Lane.

In August 2011 it was announced that Smith had joined Milton Keynes Dons on a season-long loan deal. If the Clarets are expecting to bring the defender to Turf Moor for the remainder of the season, then clearly his loan contract at MK Dons would need to be terminated.

This is not the first time Burnley have been linked with Smith and you just wonder how much of this is lazy journalism bearing in mind the Howe connection. He is also a right back so in effect if he came he would only be cover for Kieran Trippier when really left back is an area that particularly neeeds attention
