All the gossip these last few days has been about the move of Jay Rodriguez to Southampton for a fee of about £7 million.

The way it was reported in both the local and national media suggested it was almost a done deal subject to ‘one of our own’ agreeing personal terms. Burnley were reported to have accepted Saints offer despite the fee falling short of the club’s £8 million valuation.

Saints chairman Nicola Cortese has been attempting to thrash out personal terms with the 22-year-old striker’s representatives but as yet there has been no news of any confirmed transfer.

Could there now be a sting-in-the-tail with Southampton about to lose out late in the day to either Aston Villa or Sunderland?

Both Premier League clubs according to the Daily Mail could be about to bid for the player.

If the rumour is true, Burnley could well see the offer increase and the transfer fee move closer to their valuation.

Clarets fans have been resigned to losing Jay Rodriguez for sometime so a little delay whilst clubs fight it out for the player and increase their offers will only help Burnley FC financially.

Let the bidding war commence!
