It is no secret that Burnley are interested in bringing 28 year old Derby defender, Jason Shackell to Turf Moor.

Burnley are reported to already have had an £800,000 offer rejected but now it looks like they could face compeition from Cardiff City if reports in the Daily Mail are true.

In a bidding war, Burnley could easily lose out following reports that Cardiff City’s Malaysian owners have detailed a £100m investment pledge for squad strengthening, debt repayment and upgrading facilities.

Contrast that with ‘ickle old Burnley who will not even release the whole amount of the £7 million received from the sale of Jay Rodruiguez for squad building and you begin to see how already we look like paupers in the Championship.

Fortune must favour the brave when you look at the financial mess Cardiff have found themselves in over the years having now still managed to wriggle themselves free.

Current reports suggest that the Bluebirds (who now actually play in a red kit..oh dear!) have already offered £1 million for the former Norwich, Wolves and Barnsley defender.

It remains to be seen if they manage to snatch the back-four catch from under our noses!
