Clarets winger, Chris Eagles has made it clear his ambitions lie elsewhere and that life in the Championship would not meet his ambitions.

Speculation was rife that a number of Premier League clubs were interested in his services but they all seem to have come to nothing so far.

Sunderland were understood to be the latest club to be linked but the local paper, the Sunderland Echo have cast doubt on the speculation. The Echo understands that the Black Cats are not planning a move for the player and that he is not a target with no approach having been made by Sunderlnad gaffer, Steve Bruce.

Some media reports had suggested the Wearside club had made a £1 million bid for the player but this seems wide of the mark.

The Clarets would want a significantly higher offer though having spent around £1.3m to bring the 24-year-old from Old Trafford.

The Echo also suggests Eagles has fallen out with Brian Laws and wants a move although the general impressiion Clarets fans have is that Eagles simply wants to move to a Premier League club in order to further his ambition. I certainly believe he would have left the club come what may had we been relegated under any other manager.

Everton are another club believed to be interested in Eagles but again it is understood no official approach has yet been made.
