Press reports today suggest the Clarets have put in a bid of £3.75 million for Bristol City striker, Nicky Maynard.

Maynard scored 20 goals in the Championship last season and would be a quality signing for this division.

He had been linked with a move to Premier League clubs including Fulham and newly promoted West Brom so it would certainly be a coup if Laws could bring the striker to Turf Moor.

New Robins manager, Steve Coppell though appears to have poured cold water on the speculation:

‘Everyone keeps telling me there’s so much interest for [top scorer] Nicky Maynard but thankfully I have not received a phone call. Long may that continue.’, he said only yesterday.

Maynard came though Crewe Alexandra’s academy joining in 1994 at the tender age of 7!

Maynard made his full début for Crewe during the 2006-07 season ironically given his chance when Steve Jones moved to Turf Moor.

In July 2008 Maynard signed for Bristol City for £2,250,000; a club record fee.
