Scunthorpe United have denied they have received a Clarets bid of £400,000 for leading striker Martin Paterson However an offer from Burnley is believed to be on the way according to a local paper, the Scunthorpe Telegraph

Acting Scunthorpe chairman Rex Garton has confirmed that Burnley have been in touch with official Chairman,Steve Wharton to enquire about the player and a formal bid is expected soon. The paper also suggests though that the reported bid of £400k will not be enough to allow the player to leave Glanford Park.

A tribunal led to Scunthorpe having to pay an initial fee of £275,000 for the 21-year-old former Stoke City player and the Iron have since had to fork out another £60,000 due to player appearances.

They will want to recoup some of their losses although the club relegated to League 1 at the end of last season after just one season in the Championship, may find their financial plight a problem.
