Martin Paterson, despite having spent most of last season out with injury, appears to be attracting the attention of some of our Championship rivals.

Last week, the gossip suggested that Pompey gaffer, Steve Cotterill was keen to sign Pato It would appear Burnley though have rebuffed two bids from the Clarets former boss who is understood to want to bring the 24-year-old to Fratton Park for a fee of around £1.5 million.

It was also mooted that David Nugent coming the other way could form part of a deal.

Pato still has two years remaining on his contract and Howe would not be keen to let him go. The Burnley gaffer also denied this week that any bids had been received from the Hampshire club.

Now it is the turn of the Sunday tabloids to fuel speculation with Reading this morning linked as a potential suitor.

It would appear Royals gaffer, Brian McDermott wants to bring the Burnley striker Martin Paterson to the Madejski Stadium especially if he is forced to sell in-demand striker, Shane Long.

That would all be rather ironic if such a deal was completed bearing in mind Burnley knocked out Reading in the play-offs semi-final during our promotion season with Paterson scoring a stunning goal in our 2-0 second-leg victory down in Berkshire.

McDermott is reported to have already sounded out Burnley about the player but if true it is likely he got the same response the club gave Pompey…Hands Off!!
