During the transfer window last Summer one of our targets was reported to be Norwich midfielder,Darel Russell but nothing came of the move and Russell remained with the Canaries.

Of course both sides back then were in the Championship but by the end of the season, Norwich had been relegated to League 1 and Burnley were in the Premier League for the first time.

It would appear that Russell might now be keen to move to Turf Moor and it is reported today that Burnley have already enquired about the 28 year old.

Their valuation though was believed to be below that of the Canaries and any further movement on this is unlikely to take place while the powers that be are currently sunning themselves out in America on the Clarets US Tour.

Preston are also understood to be interested, although their initial offer was also below their valuation according to media reports. The attraction of the Premier League though would certainly be in our favour in any battle with the local rivals.

Russell is in the last year of his contract, and it is thought that the Clarets would be unlikely to offer more than about £500,000 for the player.

He began his career as a youth player at Norwich City but found it hard to establish himself in the first team. He was signed by Stoke in 2003 for £125,000.

Russell played right back initially for Stoke before being moved to right-midfield and central midfield.

In July 2007, Russell rejoined the Canaries signing a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee (reported to be about £400k)
