According to the Daily Mail today Burnley are set to beat off competition from Cardiff to sign Dutch midfielder Remco van der Schaaf.

This rumoured interest was first mentioned in the local Burnley Express last Thursday

Van der Schaaf previously played for Vitesse Arnhem but he is now out of contract having played 29 games for them last season scoring three goals.

A former PSV Eindhoven player under Guus Hiddink, the 29 year old is also interesting a number of Turkish clubs.

It is understood that the player may have already turned down Cardiff. Vital Cardiff reported last week that he had turned them down over Contractual terms with the stumbling block being salary and length of contract. Cardiff would appear to have only offered him a one year deal.
