Burnley have been linked with a move to sign 31-year old Wigan Athletic midfielder, Shaun Maloney but according to ‘The Sun` could face competition from fellow relegation-strugglers, Leicester City.

The Scotland international has spent much of his career north of the border with Scottish champions Celtic but does have Premier League experience with former club Aston Villa as well as Wigan before their demotion to the Championship. Wigan boss Malky Mackay has confirmed that there is ‘serious interest` in the Scot and it looks like a fee of around £1.5 million could be enough to secure his services.

Maloney started his professional career at Celtic but in January 2007 moved in the transfer window to Aston Villa for a reported fee of £1m. It was a relatively short stay at Villa Park and eighteen months later he was back in the SPL with his former club, Celtic. In August 2008, Celtic announced they had re-signed Maloney on a four-year deal for a fee of £3 million. The versatile attacking midfielder who can also play on the wing completed a move to Wigan Athletic then in the Premier League in August 2011 for a fee of £850,000 after agreeing a three-year deal.
