Dale asks any Clarets out in Sheffield or surrounding areas who may be interested in joining the Sheffield Clarets Supporters Club to contact him.

September? The month we praise or lament the Clarets after the first half dozen or so games of the season. The month the Summer comes to an end (if we have had one). A month when thousands of 18 year olds across the country leave home on a tax-dodging adventure (I did it 8 years ago – Where does time go?). The month when the Sheffield Clarets attempt to recruit new members!

For any Burnley-supporting students leaving home for Sheffield and wondering how they will get their Claret and Blue fix, the Sheffield Clarets hold the solution. Not only do we assist with travel to games, but we also provide an outlet (usually in the pub) to discuss your BFC related thoughts if those new friends you`ve met, well, just don`t quite understand!

We are not, however, a group restricted to students. We have members of varying ages and would welcome any new additions. Our main female member Lesley would, I am sure, be delighted with any new lady folk to assist her in moments of immaturity from the juveniles she is surrounded by (unfortunately some of these juveniles are 30+).

We have had a number of notable moments during our short time together as a supporters group. In December 2008 our flag bearing the group name was picked up by ITV cameras for ‘The Championship` coverage of Sheffield Utd v Burnley. The commentator at the game, Clive Tyldesley called us the ‘Transpennine Oxymorons`. A tag that has since stuck!

The flag has been on display at many grounds since its debut, ironically in Sheffield during that ‘display` at Hillsborough in 2008. In addition to Turf Moor & the two Sheffield grounds – Other grounds to have shown the flag include Wembley, Stamford Bridge, The Emirates, The Liberty, Carrow Road & of course Victoria Park ( Hartlepool).

At half time of the Bristol City game at the end of the 08/09 season we won the inaugural Pie ‘n` Chips which resulted in the presentation of a tidy sum for the participants. Not bad considering when we entered we just wanted to avoid making fools of ourselves!

We are now regular attendees at the end of season supporter`s group awards evening and present a trophy for our ‘moment of the season`. Previous winners of our award have been Jay Rodriquez in 2009 (The third goal against Spurs) & Graham Alexander (The two penalties at Hull) 2010. We normally have a table of 10 for anyone who is interested in attending.

Our provisional date for the next meeting is 8PM on Wednesday October 13th at The Devonshire Cat (This is our usual meeting place – ideal for real ale enthusiasts!). It would be great to see some new faces and would be an ideal introduction into the group just a couple of days before our trip to Bramall Lane.

We are not a formal group and you will be able to get from the group as much or little as you want to put in. There are no membership fees, and no commitments.

If you have any queries, you can email sheffieldclarets@hotmail.com or speak to any of the WTBM fanzine sellers on a match day (Most are Sheffield Claret members).

Come join us, we don`t bite, you may even enjoy it!
