Centre half James Tarkowski has this afternoon signed a new long term contract at Burnley.

The former Brentford defender made the switch back in January 2016 and although he had to largely bide his time, following the departure of Michael Keane he’s more than ably stepped into the backline and been impressive.

The 25 year was out of contract at the end of next season, but his future is in our hands with a new four and a half year deal (replaces his existing one) and he’s contracted up at Turf Moor until the summer of 2022.

Having made 19 appearances as we secured a second year in the top flight (four were starts) his run in the side alongside Ben Mee speaks for itself when you look at the fact we are enjoying our highest half way placing since 1973 in the top division.

No doubt Tarks and Sean Dyche will have plenty of words to say as the day continues.

Dyche is quoted as saying so far.

‘We felt it appropriate to offer a new deal on two levels. He’s done well in the Premier League and his contract was out of sync. We think it’s appropriate to have all our players in a similar band. We felt that’s worked well with the squad so they all know where they are at.’
