The Burnley gaffer, Eddie Howe suffered a blow over the weekend after news broke that new 19 year old striker, Danny Ings signed from Bournemouth only on the previous Monday had asuffered a bad injury in training.

Ings will require surgery to correct a cartilage injury in his knee and now looks set to be sidelined until at least the early New Year.

This was grim news considering we had also lost recently the services of Martin Paterson after he once more had a recurrence of the thigh problem which kept him sidelined for most of last season. He too faces a long spell out of the game whilst he recovers.

At the moment then we have three recognised first team strikers in Jay Rodriguez, Charlie Austin and last week’s new signing from West Ham, 22 year old Zavon Hines.

You could also add to that list, Alex MacDonald who came on from the bench last Saturday in our home game against Cardiff.

Wes Fletcher could also be recalled from Accrington Stanley. He is on loan there until January but it is clear Eddie Howe really needs more senior experienced cover.

The expectation is that a loan could be the ideal solution to the situation with the transfer window also closing soon at the end of this month.

Eddie Howe has certainly not ruled out the possibility telling the Official Website:

‘We might look to add to it. We didn’t plan to go back in, but unfortunately we might have to. We’ll see what’s available.

‘We’ve got Alex MacDonald who came off the bench on Saturday. He’s done really well in pre-season so I don’t think we are desperate.

‘We might just look who’s available and see what we do.’
